Ferro was still getting a hang of running an Inn. It had been a week since the Driftwood suddenly came under their care. There wasn’t a lot of traffic on the road the Driftwood was on, and only a small percentage of that ever made a rest stop here. The Driftwood was empty. It was something that might be a problem long term, but Ferro was thankful for the low pressure as they were learning.
The front door of the Driftwood Inn swung open, causing the welcome chime to ring, and Ferro to snap to attention. A large tan coloured rat-like Verling had entered the Inn, Ferro recognised him immediately. A classmate from their scholastic nights.
“Ferro, I didn’t think you worked here,” The new guest said, moving up to the counter that Ferro stood behind.
“Hi, nice to see you again, Bismuth,” Ferro put on a mostly fake smile. It wasn’t that they were lying, they remembered liking Bismuth. But seeing people from your past often came packaged with painful memories. “And, also I own the place,” Ferro added.
“Oh wow, you turned out a lot better than I expected. I guess I missed out not taking you to prom, huh.” Bismuth said and smiled almost apologetically. This was odd for Ferro, they were so used to always being on they’re back foot in every conversation. Getting complimented felt refreshing. But Bismuth wasn’t done talking. “I was surprised when you asked me, I actually thought you’re pretty cute. I just said no because I didn’t want my friends to think I was dating an Anomaly.”
“Oh, there was the insult,” Ferro thought. They wanted to ask if that really mattered. But that would be a dumb question. They’ve always been an Anomaly, and it has always mattered.
“Yeah, I wanted to lose my virginity that night. But the girl I was with wouldn’t put out. From what I’ve heard about you since, Ferro. We would have had a great night…” Bismuth smiled coyly.
Ferro couldn’t believe this guy, “Was he really lamenting about how he didn’t use me back then?” they wondered. They didn’t end up saying anything like that to Bismuth, though.
What Ferro actually said back was, “Well, it might be too late for your virginity, but we could still have that great night…” Followed by a smile that, this time was 100% fake. Flirting was second nature to Ferro, it was probably the only social interaction they were any good at. Which is why it wasn’t long before they were downstairs in Ferro’s room, and Bismuth was burying his cock into them.
Unsurprisingly, Bismuth wasn’t the most compassionate lover. There was very little foreplay, and he fucked the same way Ferro masturbated. There was no build up, he just began pounding right from the start. It might have been painful. Thankfully taking dicks was one of the very few things Ferro was any good at.
Despite the sex not being very good, Ferro was determined to play their part. They moaned whenever Bismuth would go deep. And they’d call back his name whenever he said theirs. It was all an act, but part of that was enjoyable to Ferro. The act of simulating something nice, sometimes paid back the pleasure of that fantasy.
Bismuth didn’t even give a warning before he came. He just let out a few satisfied grunts before going balls deep and unloading inside of Ferro. “Fuck yeah... how did you like that?” Bismuth asked as he collapsed onto Ferro.
“Yeah, It was great...” Ferro replied. They were lying, of course. Ferro wondered how often bedfellows must lie to one another. The thought perished from their mind as Bismuth gave them a post coital hug.
Bismuth was surprisingly a good cuddler. After pulling out, he took Ferro in his arms and held them close as they rested. Ferro had almost forgotten how nice it was to share their bed with someone. It was a fairly sweet end to fairly mediocre sex. They told themselves they earned this as they drifted to sleep…
Everything was quiet for a while...
When Ferro woke up the first thing they did was reach across the bed. In their waking grog they didn’t wonder why they were doing this, it was muscle memory. Simulating something nice. They were reaching across the bed for Sterling, so they could hold each other and snooze until they were ready to take on the night.
Ferro didn’t find Sterling there, they didn’t even find Bismuth. They opened their eyes to find their room empty. When they got upstairs, they found the Driftwood was empty too. On the counter, there was gold for a night’s stay on top of a note.
Ferro of course, couldn’t read the note, but they figured they knew what it said. They put their paws up to their face, tears were streaming from their eyes. They thought themselves stupid for crying. Ferro ran the Driftwood Inn now. People come here, they spend the night, and after they wake up, they leave…
“It was nothing to cry about,” They thought, “This is how an inn works...”
